Harlan County, Kentucky!

Whew! Training is over! Sorry for the lack of updates, it was a busy time! But I learned a lot in the 10 days I spent in Jonesville, Virginia. I now know my home for the entire summer - I will be serving in Harlan County, Kentucky, with my 3 other fellow staffers, Jenny, Jess, and Adam. We're going to have a great time working together and I'm thrilled to be on staff with them all!

Today we arrived at our center in Harlan. It's a practically unused Headstart center that needs a LOT of work. We have a leaky roof so our hallway is filled with buckets to catch all the water! We'll be spending a lot of our time during set-up week cleaning up he center and getting it ready for volunteers! The first set of volunteer's will arrive a week from tomorrow, so we have lot's to do! We'll be visiting homes that put in applications for home repair this summer, and making decisions on what homes we will sign to serve. I know it's going to be difficult to decide since there is so much need in Appalachia.

I will be updating you on the status of our set-up week frequently!
